Ventilator
A ventilator is a medical device that assists or completely takes over the breathing process for patients who are unable to breathe adequately on their own. These life-saving machines are primarily used in intensive care units (ICUs) to treat individuals with:
- Respiratory failure: When the lungs can't take in enough oxygen or remove enough carbon dioxide from the blood.
- Severe pneumonia: A lung infection that can severely impair breathing.
- Neuromuscular conditions: Injuries or diseases affecting the nerves or muscles responsible for breathing.
- Surgery: Some surgical procedures require general anesthesia, which involves temporarily paralyzing the muscles needed for breathing.
